Doctor of Engineering (DEng)
The online Doctor of Engineering (DEng) program is tailored for working professionals already possessing a STEM master’s degree. These working professionals desire to advance their knowledge and leadership in engineering organizations and industries, including advanced manufacturing, engineering management, computing, health care, financial, information technology, data analytics and others. The DEng graduates will become technology leaders in disruptive new technologies such as augmented intelligence, blockchain, big data, additive manufacturing and others.
The program is ideally suited for those wishing to advance their careers through practical research-based approaches. The culminating experience will be an applied research project focusing on technological advancement within the student’s chosen area of study. Students will complete their culminating experience working both with engineering faculty experts and resources provided by their employers. Students can use this opportunity to accomplish major technology projects needed by their employers.
The Doctor of Engineering doctoral degree requires a background in engineering, math, statistics, physical science, or a closely related field. However, in some cases, students with a non-traditional educational backgrounds will be considered for admission. These students may be required to take fundamental courses to better prepare them for the program coursework.
Engineering, DEng: The Online DEng program offers core coursework in project management, engineering administration, data mining, and communication to name a few. The program then has a focus area emphasizing in engineering management, which is where the majority of the elective courses will come from.
Engineering management is a specialized form of management that combines business acumen with technical expertise. Effective engineering managers understand complex, technical problems and can identify potential paths forward. Engineering managers are required to successfully lead engineering or technical projects. The Doctor of Engineering with a focus area in engineering management program builds analytical, leadership and management abilities so graduates can lead an organization of skilled professionals in the technology workforce. This degree advances the education from master’s programs by providing much broader learning opportunities both within and beyond engineering. The applied doctoral project enables a comprehensive and in-depth investigation of a significant engineering management challenge.

Application Requirements
Begin by visiting the Graduate Admissions website and completing the Graduate Admissions application and paying the application fee. The fee is nonrefundable and the application will not be processed until the fee is received.
In addition to completing the ASU Graduate Admissions application, the following materials must also be submitted to complete your application package:*
U.S. residents:
- One set of official transcripts from every college and university attended, including ASU, unless the student graduated from ASU
- One letter of recommendation
- Letter of intent (statement of purpose)
International applicants:
- Academic credentials (all international records must be submitted in the original language accompanied by an official English translation). If you have attended a U.S. institution, one set of official transcripts from every college and university attended, except ASU.
- Official TOEFL score, taken within the last two years (please see ASU’s English Proficiency requirements). The TOEFL score must be valid on the first day of class for the term the student is applying for. SCAI required that TOEFL scores must be above 575 (paper), or 90 (iBT). We also accept IELTS with a minimum overall band scores of 7.0 or the Pearson Test of English (PTE) with a minimum score of 65 or higher. Please see the Graduate Admissions website for TOEFL deadline dates. The ASU institution code is: 4007. If a department code is required use: 0000.

Calculus and GPA requirements
Knowledge in calculus is required to be successful in a SCAI Gradate Program. Below you will find the calculus courses that must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better prior to applying to the program.

Below are the minimum GPA requirements for the SCAI Graduate Program. This GPA is calculated from the last 60 hours of the undergraduate degree. Students who are applying to a PhD following a master’s degree must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 for the last degree awarded.
